Adam is behind her, darker and asleep, his head resting against hers. At her feet lie a leopard skin and a scattering of red and blue anemones.

This is one of the last canvases Klimt worked on. He died in February 1918 and left it unfinished, which explains the softer, sketchier areas at the bottom. Compared with the gold of his earlier years, the painting is quieter and more intimate. No apple, no serpent, no garden: just two figures, one awake, one dreaming.

The narrow format makes it a good fit for a bedroom, between two windows or next to a mirror.
