A patch of sunlight lands on the facade, and the whole building wakes up.
This massive civic building has upper floors lined with deep concrete fins, projecting over lower volumes of different heights. Most of the structure is in shadow, but a bright band of light hits the center and reveals the details: windows, boxes, sharp edges.
Public buildings like city halls were some of the most ambitious brutalist projects. They were designed to express openness and civic pride, even if many citizens found them intimidating at first. Today, several are celebrated as masterpieces.
For a study, an office or a living room with a taste for history, this poster brings gravitas. The landscape format and strong contrast stand out on a light wall.
The poster is available in several sizes. It is one of the most monumental images of our brutalism posters.
From town halls to universities, read how brutalism became the architecture of public life.
