How to make a custom poster in three steps

1. Upload your photo. JPG, PNG, WEBP or HEIC (the iPhone format), up to 40 MB. It uploads in the background while you work, and your design stays saved in your browser for 30 days if you want to finish it later.
2. Design your poster. Choose portrait, landscape or square, then one of 19 sizes. Drag the photo to reframe it, zoom in, rotate it by 90°, try a filter, and add a title and a subtitle.
3. Order. Your poster is printed to order, unframed or already mounted in its frame, then shipped to you or straight to the person you are giving it to.

Sizes and formats, from 15 x 20 cm to 70 x 100 cm

Your custom poster comes in the same sizes as all our posters, in three formats:

• Portrait: 15 x 20, 21 x 30 (A4), 30 x 40, 40 x 50, 45 x 60, 50 x 70, 60 x 80 and 70 x 100 cm.
• Landscape: the same eight sizes, turned sideways.
• Square: 30 x 30, 50 x 50 and 70 x 70 cm.

In inches, that is from 6 x 8 in to 28 x 39 in. As a rule of thumb, 21 x 30 and 30 x 40 cm suit a shelf, a desk or a gallery wall; 50 x 70 cm is the classic size above a sofa, a bed or a sideboard; 70 x 100 cm makes a statement piece on its own. The price updates as you choose the size and the frame.

Which photo makes a good poster?

Sharpness depends on how many pixels your photo has compared with the size you print. For a crisp result, start from a photo of at least 3,000 pixels on its longest side: a photo from a recent smartphone is enough for most sizes. While you design, a quality indicator rates the print from excellent to low resolution for the size and zoom you have chosen. If the resolution is too low, pick a smaller size or zoom out a little.

• Use the original file rather than a screenshot or a photo received through a messaging app: both are heavily compressed.
• Choose a well-lit, in-focus photo. A large print makes slight blur more visible, not less.
• Some very bright colors (neon, electric blues and greens) cannot be reproduced exactly in print. Turn on the print color preview under the poster to see how they will look on paper.

Paper and frames made to last

Every custom poster is printed on 200 gsm FSC-certified paper, in two finishes:

• Matte paper: a soft, natural finish with no reflections. Ideal for black-and-white photos, portraits and bright rooms.
• Semi-gloss paper: richer colors with a subtle satin sheen, for colorful photos, landscapes and travel pictures.

Order the poster on its own or framed: a slim black metal frame, or a premium white oak or natural oak frame, all with acrylic glazing. You only pay for the frame, the framing itself is free: your poster arrives already mounted in its frame, ready to hang.

Filters, text and layouts to make it yours

Ten filters change the mood of your photo in one click: Original, Vivid, Golden, Nordic, Faded, Vintage, Dramatic, Black & white, Noir and Sepia. Then add a title and a subtitle in a classic serif or a modern sans-serif font, with a thin, regular or bold title.

Three layouts place the text in different ways:

• White borders: the photo framed by a white margin, like a gallery print, with the text below it.
• Full page: the photo covers the whole sheet and the text is written in white over it.
• Text box: the photo covers the whole sheet and the text sits in a white box near the bottom.

A personalized gift that stays on the wall

A photo poster is a gift people see every day. A few ideas that work well:

• Wedding or anniversary: a picture from the day, with the names and the date as title and subtitle.
• New baby: a first portrait with the first name, date and time of birth.
• Travel: a landscape from the trip, with the place and the month.
• Pets: a portrait of the dog or cat, with its name in large letters.
• Family and friends: a group photo for a birthday, a housewarming, Mother's Day, Father's Day or Christmas.
