Rough pillars on the left, a low wall on the right, a tree waiting at the end.
This covered walkway runs straight into the distance. The round columns have a hammered, grainy texture that catches the light. The ceiling slabs step down in a series of dark bands. The brick paving draws fine lines that lead to a bright glimpse of glass buildings and greenery.
Rough textured concrete like this was obtained by hammering the surface after it set, a technique typical of brutalism. It gives the pillars an almost stone-like feel.
The image is calm, structured and inviting. We see it in a hallway, a home office or a living room with a love for urban walks. The vertical format adds depth.
Several sizes are available. Find other covered walkways and passages in our brutalist architecture posters, then read how estates like the Barbican were designed around walkways.
