A cylinder, a few boxes, a dramatic sky. Brutalism loves its basic shapes.
A ribbed round tower rises in the background, while big rectangular volumes stick out in front of it at different heights. Some carry bands of windows, others are blind walls of raw concrete. The sun hits them sideways, so half of each block is bright and half is deep black. Clouds roll behind.
The effect is almost like a model made from wooden blocks, only at full scale. It shows the playful side of an architecture often accused of being too serious.
This piece suits a modern living room, a study or a teenager's room. Its tall format and punchy contrast make it visible from across the room. Available in several sizes.
Shapes like these were common on campuses and in civic centers. You will see their relatives in our brutalism poster collection. To dig into the story of these buildings, read how brutalism shaped universities, theaters and town halls.
