Heavy, dark, slightly menacing. And we mean that as a compliment.
Shot from a low angle, a massive box of a building leans toward the viewer. Its walls are covered with a rough, almost organic texture, and long horizontal openings cut through them like slits. Another tower appears on the right, just as dark. Above both, a pale sky is filling with clouds.
This is brutalism in its most theatrical mood. The photographer pushed the contrast so the concrete turns nearly black, and the sky seems to glow by comparison. You can almost hear the wind.
Hang it in a room that can take some drama: a dark living room, a home cinema, an office with deep colored walls. It is printed in several sizes, and works well in a black or metal frame.
You will find lighter, airier buildings in our brutalist wall art collection too, if you want to balance it with something softer. And for the story of how these fortress-like buildings came to be, read our article on brutalism's rise, fall and return.
