Part tree, part spaceship, part fortress. Few buildings look as unlikely as this one.
A stack of glass floors grows wider as it rises, held up by thick concrete pillars that branch out at an angle. The ground floor seems tiny compared to the mass above it. Around the base, pine trees and shrubs soften the scene, and the sky is bright and clear.
Universities were among the biggest clients of brutalist architects, and libraries were often the boldest project on campus. This one is a perfect example: heavy and light at the same time, practical and completely theatrical.
In a home library or a study, it is an obvious match. It also works in a living room, where it adds a sense of scale and a slightly retro futurist touch. The poster is available in several sizes.
