Our brutalist architecture posters include plenty of overhangs, but few as bold as this one.
A massive concrete volume juts out above the rest of the building, its underside lined with fine louvers. The angle from below makes it look as if it might take off. Other volumes and walls stack around it, all pale gray against a soft, cloudy sky.
It feels confident, almost heroic. The light is diffuse, so the shapes stand out through tone rather than hard shadows. That gives the image a smooth and modern look. Follow the line where the block leaves the facade: it is as clean as a ruler stroke.
The 5:4 format is wide enough for a living room and compact enough for an office. Its light tones suit Scandinavian and minimalist interiors. Several sizes are available.
Engineers and architects of the era pushed concrete to its limits with cantilevers like this. Read about the boldest brutalist buildings and their legacy.
