Raspberry pink, chalk white, a touch of green. In this Lagoon, Matisse lines up his seaweed shapes in long horizontal rows, as if the current were pulling them all in the same direction. A black band at the top, a coral one on the right and a small blue leaf in the corner keep the eye moving around the page.
The background is a very pale blue, almost white, so the whole plate feels light and airy. It is the most rhythmic of the three Lagoons in Jazz, closer to a piece of music than a seascape, which suits a book named after jazz.
Where would we put it? A bathroom, obviously, but also a bedroom with soft colors, where the pink can pick up a cushion or a throw. You can order it in several sizes, framed or not.
