A Paris street seen from a balcony, overflowing with flags. Red, white and blue tricolours hang from every window and flutter above a dense crowd that fills the street below, painted as a mass of quick dark strokes. The whole picture vibrates with color and noise.
On 30 June 1878, Paris held a national celebration during the World's Fair. Monet found a balcony on the Rue Montorgueil and painted the scene in a few hours, with a speed and freedom that still amaze. The canvas belongs to the Musée d'Orsay. It is tall and narrow, so we print it with a light border to keep it intact.
Festive and energetic, it is a great print for an entrance, an office or a living room. Our Claude Monet art prints include his other Paris scenes. Our article on Monet tells the story of his Paris years. Several sizes.
