A gray day, an empty road, and a web of tram wires overhead.
In the distance, a line of residential tower blocks stretches across the horizon, with a plume of smoke rising behind them. In the foreground, a railing, tracks, lamp posts and electric poles cut the image into a grid of lines. The sky is overcast and the whole scene feels quiet.
This is not a portrait of a single building, but of a whole urban landscape. It captures the atmosphere of the large housing districts on the edge of many cities, built in a hurry, often criticized, yet full of life.
We like its melancholy and its honesty. It suits a study, a hallway or a living room with a love for street photography. The landscape format works well above furniture.
The poster is available in several sizes. It joins our brutalism poster collection as one of its most documentary images.
