Peeling paint, rust stains, a staircase that has seen better days. This building has lived.
Angular canopies stick out from the roofline like the wings of a strange bird. Below them, external stairs and balconies are patched and repaired, with traces of old paint flaking off the concrete. The dark sky behind makes the bright surfaces pop.
We find real beauty in this kind of wear. It shows how a building ages, how it is used, how people adapt it. A brand new structure would never have this much character.
It is one of the grittier images in our brutalism wall art, next to the graffiti arcade and the concrete ruins. It suits a loft, a workshop or an urban style living room.
The landscape format and strong contrast make it a statement piece. Available in several sizes.
From praise to rejection to rediscovery, brutalist buildings have had a rollercoaster life. Read about the fall and comeback of brutalism.
