Black, white, black, white. Folded like a paper fan.
This close-up of stacked balconies turns concrete into pure graphic design. Each slab bends at an angle, and the shadow underneath forms a thick black chevron. Repeat that three or four times and you get a pattern that would not look out of place in a 1960s op art exhibition.
There is no sky to speak of, no window, no hint of scale. Your eye just follows the zigzag up and down. That makes it one of the most abstract pieces in our brutalism wall art collection, and a great bridge between architecture and modern art.
It looks sharp in a minimalist interior, a hallway or a creative studio. Pair it with a geometric rug or plain furniture and let it do the talking. The poster comes in several sizes.
Architects of the period loved shaping balconies into sculptures like this. Learn more about the bold geometry of brutalist buildings.
