A small winged Cupid drifts across a field of warm ochre, a whisper of blue sash curling around him. This Roman fresco once decorated the vaulted bedroom (cubiculum) of the villa of Numerius Popidius Florus at Boscoreale, near Pompeii. Dated AD 50-79, it belongs to the Fourth Style, the last phase of Pompeian painting, and keeps the quiet elegance of the decorations made for bedrooms. The wide expanse of color does the heavy lifting: space, calm and a touch of myth, all in one glance.
Our print keeps the mineral texture intact. You will see hairline cracks, limewash blooms and those soft, chalky pigments that make ancient walls feel alive. Browse more Roman fresco posters in the Pompeii Eternal collection to create a dialogue across your walls.
- Palette: saffron and honey ochre with hints of celadon and chalk white
- Mood: intimate, playful, quietly ceremonial
- Style notes: pairs well with linen, stoneware, aged wood and patinated metal
- Printed on thick matte paper, available in several sizes
Hang it on its own to let the space breathe, or above a bed as a nod to its original room. Cupid aims for hearts, not drywall, but he does improve a gallery wall, especially next to his beloved, our Psyche on blue from the House of Venus. To understand why these ruins feel so contemporary, find out how Pompeian walls find a home in modern interiors.
