Flora pauses to gather flowers as she walks away from us, her golden robe slipping from one shoulder, against a soft green ground that has kept its freshness for almost two thousand years. This fresco, one of the best-known images of Roman painting, comes from the Villa Arianna in Stabiae, a seaside residence near Pompeii buried by Vesuvius in 79 AD. It is often called the Primavera, as Flora was the Roman goddess of flowers and spring.
What we love is its lightness: a few quick strokes for the folds, a turned head, almost no setting at all. The painter trusted empty space, which is exactly why the image feels so modern on a wall today. Our print keeps every crack and the worn patina of the plaster, so it reads as a true fragment rather than a glossy copy.
Printed on thick matte paper, it brings a calm, airy note to a living room, a bedroom or an entryway. For a closer look at her braided hair, see our Flora of Stabiae detail poster.
