A woman's face in profile, dark and serious, set in a black square and crowned with a golden spiral. On either side stand two tall women in draped robes, drawn in fine grey lines, with leafy branches above them. Below, in elegant capitals, a single word: JUNIUS.
This is the month of June, as imagined by Klimt in 1896 for Allegorien, a series of allegorical designs published by Gerlach & Schenk in Vienna. He was 34, still working mostly as a decorator, and already mixing the classical style he had learned with the graphic sense that would soon define the Secession.
A refined, almost minimalist piece in cream, black and gold, at ease in an office, a bedroom or a library. The poster comes in several sizes and can be framed. Our Klimt prints & posters include another fine drawing, Nuda Veritas.
For the young Klimt and the city he grew up in, read our Vienna article.
