Here we stand back. Schloss Kammer appears behind the greenery, its cream walls and dark roofs half hidden, with towers rising on the left. A small boathouse sits on the water. The lower half of the painting is the lake itself, deep green, with long pale reflections of the façade.
This is the first of Klimt's paintings of the castle, from 1908–1909. In 1910 he came closer and filled the canvas with the building. Here the water still dominates, which gives the scene a quiet, almost sleepy feel. The painting belongs to the National Gallery in Prague.
It goes well in a living room or an office, especially with dark green or wooden furniture. You can order it in several sizes, framed or unframed. The later, sunnier version is next to it in our Gustav Klimt collection.
The Attersee summers and the castle are part of our walk through Klimt's world.
