How to Choose Bathroom Wall Art

Can You Hang Posters in a Bathroom?

Yes, as long as the room is ventilated by a window or an extractor fan. Paper does not like standing water or walls that stay damp for hours, so pick a wall that dries quickly after a shower: above the towel rail, opposite the mirror, above the toilet or beside the door. Keep the print out of the splash zone of the shower and the bathtub, and choose a framed poster: the plexiglass protects the front from steam and drops, and the frame keeps the paper flat. If your bathroom has no window, leave the fan running a little longer after showers. Our guide to bathroom wall art ideas goes further on placement, sizes and humidity.

Blue, Water and Light

Blue is the bathroom's natural color, and it runs through this collection, from Matisse's cut-out Blue Nudes and Polynesia, the Sea to ocean posters of incoming waves and quiet horizons. Our beach prints, with their portraits in the sun and palm trees, bring a holiday feeling to a white-tiled room, and the blue-to-purple haze of our gradient posters echoes water without spelling it out.

A Spa Mood at Home

For a calmer, spa-like bathroom, look for still water and slow scenes: a woman floating on her back, a swimmer crossing a pool, a sun resting on the horizon. The Romans got there first, and our Pompeii frescoes make a quiet historical nod to the room's purpose: a bride having her hair done in the Villa of the Mysteries, a woman carrying a basin of water, another pouring perfume into a phial, or the Pompeii mosaic of octopus, fish and crabs that once decorated a Roman house.

Funny Bathroom Wall Art

A guest toilet or a powder room is the one wall everyone stares at for a minute, so it is a good place for humor. Bathroom Alchemy promises that you'll "go in like a mess, come out like a masterpiece," a smiley sun winks from a blue sky, and a Magritte-style tree floats with a single red cherry above the water. Our funny posters add a proud blobfish and a few more.

Which Size for a Bathroom?

• Small toilet or powder room: a 21 x 30 cm (8 x 12 in) or 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 in) print, above the cistern or on the wall facing the door.
• Above a towel rail or beside a vanity: a 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 in) or 40 x 50 cm (16 x 20 in) poster, with its center around 150 cm (59 in) from the floor.
• Main bathroom or a wall above the bath: one 50 x 70 cm (20 x 28 in) poster, or two 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 in) prints side by side, hung high enough to stay clear of splashes.
• Large bathroom: a 70 x 100 cm (28 x 39 in) poster works on a dry wall far from the shower.

Framed or Unframed?

In a bathroom, a frame is worth it. Every frame we offer comes with shatterproof plexiglass instead of glass, which is safer on a wet tiled floor. Black metal is the most humidity-proof choice and goes well with matte black or chrome taps; white or natural oak warms a white, Scandinavian-style bathroom and suits a guest toilet or a well-ventilated room. Every poster is printed on thick archival paper by the partner closest to you, and the framing itself is free: you only pay for the frame.
